Welcome to Miri, a charming city nestled in the beautiful state of Sarawak, Malaysia. As you step foot into this vibrant destination, you’ll immediately be captivated by its rich history, diverse racial and religious compositions, and mouthwatering food culture.
Before we delve into the wonders of Miri, let’s take a moment to understand its background. Miri is located on the northern coast of Sarawak, and while it may seem quite distant from West Malaysia, it is actually well-connected by flights, particularly from Kuala Lumpur. A short flight will transport you from the bustling capital to this serene oasis, making it an easily accessible destination for travelers seeking a different side of Malaysia.

Day #1

On the first day, I embarked on a memorable walk from Miri’s main town all the way up to Canada Hill. As I made my way to the top, passing through the city’s bustling streets, I was met with the sight of popular landmarks such as The Grand Old Lady (Miri Oil Well). These historic sites hold a significant place in Miri’s history, as they mark the birthplace of Malaysia’s petroleum industry. Standing tall against the vibrant skyline, The Grand Old Lady is an iconic symbol of Miri’s transformation from a small fishing village to a thriving city.

While exploring Canada Hill, I couldn’t resist the temptation to slip into one of the nearby hiking trails. With the day slowly transitioning into dusk, I embarked on a quick hike to discover the wilderness that lies just moments away from the bustling town. It was fascinating to witness the locals indulging in their daily exercise routines, with hikers arriving in their cars, eager to conquer the trails. This juxtaposition of nature and urban life showcased Miri’s unique charm.

Day #3

In the early evening of the third day, I found myself at Tanjong Lobang Beach, eagerly awaiting the mesmerizing sunset. As I walked along the jetty, I noticed a few individuals engrossed in the art of fishing, their silhouettes adding to the scenic beauty of the location. Tanjong Lobang Beach holds a special place in Miri’s history as well, being one of the oldest recreational areas in the city. The tranquil atmosphere, coupled with the golden hues of the setting sun, created an unforgettable experience that will forever be etched in my memories.
