Leaving Kathmandu after conquering Everest Base Camp was a bittersweet moment for me. On one hand, I was elated to have achieved my goal of reaching the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. The temple, which is one of the oldest and most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal, sustained significant damage during the quake, but has since been partially restored.

It was a chilly evening at Lukla Airport, also known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, in Lukla Town as I sat waiting for my flight back to Kathmandu. The airport, located in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal, is known for its challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Flying back to Kathmandu from Lukla Town can be an exciting and nerve-wracking experience, as the tiny airport has a reputation for being one of the most dangerous in the world. However, the stunning views of the Himalayas during the flight make it all worth it.

Descending from Phakding to Lukla, one is immediately struck by the beauty of the villages and surrounding areas. The terrain is rugged and mountainous, with steep inclines and rocky paths. The villages themselves are nestled amongst the peaks, their traditional architecture blending seamlessly with the natural landscape.
