Gorak Shep to Pheriche, Namche Bazaar and Phakding

A 3-day Journey

As we set out from Gorak Shep, the trail begins with a steep descent through rocky terrain. As hikers make their way down, they will have the opportunity to take in the awe-inspiring views of Mount Everest and the surrounding peaks. Along the way, we passed by several small lakes, which offer a great spot to rest and take in the scenery. The air is crisp and clear, and the sun beats down on your face, warming you as you make your way down.

We left Gorak Shep at 11 in the morning after coming back from Everest Base Camp. The journey to Pheriche brought us back through few of our earlier destinations including the memorial monuments at Thukla Pass and Dughla. The whole journey took around 5 hours.

As the trail reaches its lowest point, hikers will cross the Khumbu river and head to the small village of Pheriche. Pheriche is a charming village, nestled in a peaceful valley surrounded by towering peaks. It offers a great opportunity for hikers to take a rest and explore the local culture before continuing on their journey. The village is also a great place to stay overnight and recharge before tackling the next section of the trek.

Khumbu Lodge and Restaurant is a popular destination for trekkers on the Gorak Shep to Pheriche trail. The lodge is located in the heart of Pheriche, and it offers a range of comfortable accommodations for trekkers. The rooms are simple but clean, and they come equipped with all the basic amenities you’ll need for a comfortable stay.

The restaurant at Khumbu Lodge is a great place to refuel after a long day on the trail. The menu features a wide range of traditional Nepalese dishes, as well as Western favorites. The food is simple but delicious, and it’s made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant also has a cozy and warm atmosphere, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day of trekking.

We stayed for the night here to recharge and continue our descent to Namche Bazaar the following day.

Day 10 – Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

At an altitude of 4,371 meters, we continued our journey from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar the next morning, and it took us through a series of breathtaking landscapes, from lush forests to rocky high-altitude terrain. The trail is steep and can be challenging, but it is well-marked and well-maintained.

As we continued to trek, we passed through a long majestic stretch of rhododendron forests. The trail also crosses several suspension bridges over rushing rivers, offering views of the stunning waterfalls and rapids below. The trail eventually leads us to Namche Bazaar, a place where we stayed for the night.

I’ve stopped taking photos and videos beyond this point to focus more on the descent as most of the areas have been covered during our ascent earlier. We eventually reached Namche Bazaar where we stayed for the night.

Our descent resumed the following day towards Phakding.
