Nangkartshang Peak Descent and Snow in Dingboche

Started our descent back to Dingboche after spending around half an hour at Nangkartshang Peak. Definitely coming back up here in the future if time permits. Normal trekking time up to the top is around 2 hours based on what I’ve read online, 3 hours isn’t that bad I guess.

The descent was decent and all of us got down in around an hour. Our guide, Nabin, made it look way too easy, literally sliding down all the way to Dingboche, just right for lunch. After sometime nearing dinner time, it started to snow, and it was heavenly. It was my first time experiencing this white magical moment and it was amazing.

Besides the view, there’s nothing much to say except it was so much easier going down and it felt good. Not much was recorded during the descent except for a couple of photos and 3 videos, which you can view right at the bottom of this page.

To really comprehend the altitude and elevation we were at, a quick peek at Dingboche below gave us a good clear picture of where we really stood. Distance and size do tango with each other to give you the bigger picture.

Timing on this day seemed to be at its highest perfection. We hit Dingboche at exactly two in the afternoon, perfectly at a time where nature took its course and said it was time for everything to go white.

It started snowing.

Best day of my life. If it wasn’t so darn cold, I’d have pulled out a chair and stayed out in the snow till dinner. This probably signaled everyone to take the heating up scene up a notch, especially at the dining area, where everyone grouped the longest.

After a crazy day of acclimatization and 2 good meals, I retired early for the day, expecting a much whiter landscape in the morning. You may find a short video below showing our descent from Nangkartshang Peak and my crazy obsession with the snow. Tomorrow, we’ll be leaving Dingboche for Lobuche (4,910m).
